Sights· 1

  1. Mullae Creative Village

An old steel workshop district where artists and cafes moved in.

Mullae-dong's lanes held steel workshops from the 1960s. From the early 2000s artists looking for cheap studio space moved in. Working metal shops still sit between galleries, studios, murals and cafes.

    Why go
Working steel workshops and artists' studios sharing the same lane is what defines the area. People come to take photos, see small exhibitions and walk slowly.
    Good to know
It is a short walk from Mullae Station on Line 2, exit 7 (Yeongdeungpo-gu's directions). The workshops are working on weekdays, so keep to the lanes and do not photograph or peer into work areas. A Korea Tourism Organization article suggests holidays are quiet because the workshops close, but some cafes may close too, so check opening hours on your map app.

Markets· 2

  1. Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market

A fish market where you pick live seafood and have it sliced raw.

One of Seoul's main fish markets, opened in 1927 next to Seoul Station and moved to its current site in 1971. Live fish, shellfish and dried seafood are sold wholesale and retail, and a live-fish auction runs in the small hours, roughly 1 to 3 a.m.

    Why go
Koreans come to pick out live seafood themselves and have it sliced into raw fish on the spot. Roughly half of the Seoul-area seafood trade passes through it, so it is also a place people genuinely shop.
    Good to know
Take your fish to a market restaurant (many are on the second floor) and they will slice it and serve it; you pay the fishmonger for the fish and the restaurant separately for the table setting, sauces and side dishes. The market's website posts prices by species, which helps you compare before you buy.

  2. Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market

A local market where residents shop and eat blood sausage.

A traditional market in southwest Seoul that opened in 1956, with about 420 stalls spread across buildings, arcades and alleys. It has a sundae (blood sausage) alley running since 1966, plus side dish, dried fish and clothing shops.

    Why go
Residents do their holiday and weekly shopping here and pick up food like sundae and tteokguk, so it feels like a local market rather than a sightseeing one.
    Good to know
The sundae is often freshly made in the afternoon for takeout, so a daytime visit works best. Yeongdeungpo Market Station, Exit 3, is the closest way in.

Outdoors· 1

  1. Yeouido Hangang Park

A riverside park where office workers eat ramyeon on mats after work.

A riverside park in front of the 63 Building with a water-play fountain plaza, a swimming pool, bike rental points, an ecological park along the Saetgang stream, convenience stores and delivery pickup zones. Large events such as the spring flower festival and the autumn fireworks festival are held in this area.

    Why go
After work, office workers and residents lay out mats here and eat convenience-store ramyeon or delivered food, which makes it the center of Han River culture. Official counts show that the great majority of visitors are Korean.
    Good to know
Delivery food can be collected at zones near the Yeouido riverside gate, the second parking lot and the water plaza entrance; check the official map for exact spots. Bikes are rented near Mapo Bridge, Wonhyo Bridge and Yeouinaru, the fountain plaza runs April to October, and the pool opens in summer only.
