Koryo Samgyetang
Korea's very first restaurant dedicated to samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup).
Samgyetang is a traditional summer tonic dish once enjoyed by the old noble families of Seoul. To get through the sweltering summer, aristocratic households embraced the idea of "fighting heat with heat," slowly simmering young spring chickens with glutinous rice, fresh ginseng, chestnuts and jujubes before serving them at the table.
Our founder, a native of Seocheon in Chungnam, came up to Seoul after finishing his military service just after the Korean War. Working at the poultry market in Namdaemun Market, he first formed his bond with samgyetang.
Back then the shops would slaughter young chickens for samgyetang on the spot and sell them along with the other ingredients. Watching hundreds sell each day around the hottest days of summer, he judged that there was a real chance in cooking and selling samgyetang himself, and opened a small samgyetang restaurant at the entrance of Myeong-dong for the first time.
That was in 1960.
Koryo Samgyetang uses firm, chewy seven-week-old chickens, combining ginseng, glutinous rice, jujubes and various medicinal ingredients. Rooted in a summer tonic dish created by the old nobles of Seoul and handed down over centuries, we carry on the family tradition with pride as the birthplace where all the know-how of the modern samgyetang restaurant was developed and established.

Can I book Koryo Samgyetang for today or tomorrow?
Yes, when a time is open: choose Express (today or tomorrow). The next Express time is tomorrow (Mon, Oct 26) at 17:00 (as of Oct 25, 15:38 Korea time). You approve a card hold when you send the request, and it is charged when the place confirms. A confirmed Express booking can’t be cancelled or refunded.
How does booking Koryo Samgyetang work?
Confirm faster is how you book at some places — the ones millio books on your behalf. The ordinary request (“Ask if your times are available”) appears there only if the card hold can't be used. You approve a card hold in PayPal when you send the request, and your request is sent once the hold is placed. This is a hold, not a charge. If the place confirms one of your times, you accept a time it suggests, or you agree on another time with us, we charge the held amount and the booking is confirmed. There is no payment window to miss. If no time works, the request expires, or you cancel before it is confirmed, we release the hold. You pay nothing.
Do I need a Korean phone number or a Korean app?
No. To send a booking request, you sign in with Google or with a code we email you, which creates your free millio account. There is no ID check and nothing to install. It all works in a regular browser. To view or cancel an existing booking, use the link in your confirmation email. You do not need to sign in.
Can I cancel? What is refunded?
You can cancel from the link in your confirmation email. Cancel by 5:00 PM Korea time on the day before your appointment and we refund any deposit you paid to the place in full. The millio booking fee is not refunded. After that deadline there is no refund. If the place cannot confirm a time, you pay nothing. If a place cancels a booking you have already paid for, we refund your deposit in cash. The booking fee is not refunded if the place had confirmed the booking.
