Private Korean body scrub: what to expect in a one-person room

A private Korean body scrub (seshin) is a one-on-one session in a room of your own: soak, scrub, rinse, often more. It is normally booked ahead, runs 50 to 150 minutes and costs more than the bathhouse kind. What to wear, what it costs, and the one place on millio that sells it, which is not in Seoul.

A Korean body scrub, 세신 (se-sin) or seshin, comes in two forms. In a public bathhouse you wait your turn and are scrubbed on a rubber mat in a corner of the bath hall, for about ₩20,000–40,000. In a one-person scrub shop the same ritual happens in a room that is yours for the session, usually by reservation. This guide is about the second kind.

millio has one place that sells a private scrub today: The Gyeol Incheon, in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, not Seoul. Its prices and minutes below are from millio’s menu on October 9, 2026. How a session works comes from Korean and English-language press and the government’s Korea.net, linked at the end.

  1. 01A one-on-one session in a room of your own: 50 to 150 minutes, usually by reservationA private scrub (1인 세신, il-in se-sin, “one-person scrub”) means a room with its own tub where one attendant, a 세신사 (se-sin-sa), looks after one guest. The order is soak, scrub, rinse, and most courses add steps: lotion, a face mask, a shampoo, a massage. The Korea Herald’s July 2025 round-up of five Seoul shops listed courses of 50 to 150 minutes, and at least one of them took reservations only, with no walk-ins.
  2. 02The bathhouse scrub, moved into a room of your ownIn a public bathhouse you take a light shower, wait in the tub until you are called, and are scrubbed on a rubber mat in a corner of the bath hall. That is how Korea.net’s guide to bathhouse culture and the JoongAng Daily describe it. A private shop moves the ritual into a closed room with a tub, a mat or bed, and nobody else. What you pay extra for is privacy, quiet and individual attention: in 2022 the Korea Herald found a one-person shop almost twice as expensive as a bathhouse scrub. The classic tool is a rough exfoliating towel Koreans call the “Italy towel” (이태리타월).

  3. 03How a session runs, step by stepVogue Korea’s July 2026 walk-throughs of two private-room courses (85 minutes at a shop, 70 at a hotel spa) follow one order: a soak of 15 to 30 minutes, a first scrub, a second and softer pass with a gentler towel, a rinse, then an oil massage, a sheet mask and a shampoo. A JoongAng Daily account of a Seoul shop adds a milk body-care step and tea at the end, with about 30 minutes of actual scrubbing. That shop’s intake form also asked how firm you want it. Say so if you are asked.
  4. 04Expect to be undressed, but you have optionsBare skin is the norm. JoongAng Daily reports that guests unused to it can wear disposable underwear or a swimsuit, though attendants tend to recommend going without; both Vogue Korea walk-throughs begin with a bathrobe. Many private shops take one gender only. In the Korea Herald’s 2025 round-up, three of five were women-only, one was men-only and one was mixed. Before you book, ask whether the shop takes your gender and what it provides.
  5. 05Before you go: shower, say what you want, say what your skin is doingTake a light shower and stay in the tub until you are called, the advice in Korea.net’s bathhouse guide. Tell the attendant which areas you want scrubbed and how firm; at bathhouses the price depends on full body or back only. Sunburn, broken skin, a rash, a period, pregnancy, a recent procedure: tell the shop when you book, not at the door, and let it decide whether and how to scrub. If a doctor has told you to avoid exfoliating, follow the doctor.
  6. 06₩70,000 to ₩297,000 in a private room: compare what is bundledA bathhouse scrub is about ₩20,000–40,000 (JoongAng Daily, August 2025). The Korea Herald’s July 2025 round-up of five Seoul private shops listed courses from ₩70,000 to ₩297,000, and three of the five started at ₩70,000–77,000. In Vogue Korea’s July 2026 walk-throughs one private room in Gangnam charged ₩165,000 for 85 minutes and a hotel spa in central Seoul ₩166,300 for 70. Courses bundle different things (milk care, oil, a facial, hair care, a massage) for different minutes, so compare the steps and the length, not just the price. The Seoul shop in the JoongAng piece sold a basic package of bath, full-body scrub, milk body care, facial and hair treatment for ₩83,000. These are 2025–2026 prices, so read today’s menu.
  7. 07On millio: The Gyeol Incheon, outside Seoul, and no scrub is sold aloneThe Gyeol Incheon is in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, so you travel there from Seoul. Check the time on your own map. Six courses on millio’s menu (October 9, 2026) include a private scrub: Signature Course C (enzyme bath + private scrub) ₩111,000 · 90 min; Healing Course (with enzyme bath) ₩141,000 · 110 min; Signature Course D (enzyme bath + private scrub + therapy) ₩181,000 · 150 min; Aroma Course (with enzyme bath) ₩191,000 · 130 min; VIP Special Course (with enzyme bath) ₩241,000 · 150 min; and a Pregnancy Course (private scrub + prenatal massage, no enzyme bath) ₩109,000 · 120 min. Five of the six include the enzyme bath (효소찜질; our enzyme bath guide explains it). The minutes are the booking slot on the menu: for Healing, Aroma and VIP that is 30 minutes more than the course as described (80, 100 and 120 minutes). Every course carries a ₩30,000 deposit.
  8. 08Booking in English: offer times, the place confirms, then you payChoose a course on The Gyeol Incheon’s page and offer up to three times. The place confirms one, and nothing is charged until it does. The calendar opens from the day after tomorrow, and millio suggests booking a week ahead. Use the optional “Anything the place should know” box for questions about gender and clothing, how firm you want it, and any skin note; it is translated into Korean for the shop. The place has not listed the languages its staff speak, so do not count on English at the door. Cancel before 17:00 Korea time on the day before your date and the deposit comes back; millio’s booking fee does not.
